yup it is getting more and more annoying, some say that they are just words and should be treated as such, but hidden behind the words is blatant intolerance/hate/ignorance.. u can't hide that.. even my supposed friends use 'gay' just about any negative thing... anyways, i'm done with those people and won't pretend to be friends with them
i'd hate to go the hypocrite way but i'm really tempted to use the word 'ungay' for every bad thing xD
Im not religious but i know that say jesus wouldent kill someone becuase they didnt like the opposite sex And if gay people are imperfect creations and if u beleive god made us then ur saying god is an imperfect creator
So true many of my family members think this way(old fashioned religous) but in the bible it says: Mark 12:28-31 (New International Version)
The Greatest Commandment
28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[b] 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[c] There is no commandment greater than these.”
So in my opinion ppl need to start to change the way they treat LGBT!!!
Yep and alot of people go out of their way to harrass others instead of being a good example of their religion.. Its not the religion its all of the people who cause it to be one big group of people who hate that make it not welcoming dont you agree
This is actually inaccurate. Every LGBT person I know, except the straight supporters (excluding myself) constantly says "faggot" and "gay" because they know it's not REALLY meant to offend them, those are words used to describe other things (unless you're from Westboro Baptist Church, then it means to offend them). I'm honestly tired of hearing my straight, female friends call me out if I say "Wow that douche was a total faggot", even though the gay people around me say things like "I know, right? He totally is!" Hell, almost all the time, they say things like "You faggot" and "That's pretty gay". Just saying, it's almost never meant as a reference to homosexuality, just to say someone or something is pretty dumb or stupid, and almost the entire LGBT community knows that.
You're exactly right. But that's the point. Just like with the word 'retarded,' people aren't intending to offend mentally retarded people. They're just calling something dumb or stupid, like you said. But using that word makes it into a derogatory comment, as if being retarded (or in this case, gay) is an insult, synonymous with stupid. I know people often don't mean it that way, but they also often do. I have heard remarks where I am, intending and not intending homosexuality. And if it was the statistics you were mentioning, those were gathered from the GLSEN website, who collects them across the US.
I'm just waiting for all the "YOU HOMOPHOBIC PRICK I HATE YOU I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU HATE GAYS LOVE IS LOVE I HOPE YOU DIE IN A FIRE AND BEFORE YOU BURN YOUR HEAD FALLS OFF AND ROLLS INTO A GAY BAR" comments. Despite me SUPPORTING equality for all.
Where are the stats on how much straight lads refer to each other as "pussys" and tell "your mother" jokes?
In fact, where are the stats on gay lads sassing and criticising straight and other gays? Or how about the stats on all the drama, promiscuity and damage that's done to the identity and label that is being gay?
How about to fix ourselves and our own community before we try and help others be more open minded. Because some random straight lad describing a situation or person as "being gay" or, in the identical context, "being a pussy" (something they happen to love, maybe they love gays too? Seriously the entire argument of using "so gay" as a derogatory comment is so full of holes) is nothing compared to the issues burning through the LGBT community all over the world.
Some of my real life friends use 'gay' in a negative way like it's a horrible or disgusting thing -__- I mean is that really all people can come up with now a days? 'That's sooo gay' how about something else like 'That's so stupid' or 'That's so ignorant' or 'That's so illogical'. There are so many different words people can use other then 'That's so gay' in my opinion...like when people say 'That's retarded' I know it's kinda different here and I know retarded means stupid, I don't know I just-I don't like how those type of words sound you know? Crap sorry if this made no sense XD Kind of tired this morning.
Ah thanks for agreeing ^^ Those people are just ignorant though I guess..they think using 'gay' and 'retarded' in negative ways are okay when really they could actually offend someone without realizing it
Same here! Whenever I hear my younger brother use that word or my younger sister, I try to politley tell them not to use words like that when they are around me as I don't tolorate words like 'retard'. I wish people would actually THINK before they speak or type something *sighs*
I only say "that's gay" when I'm kidding around with my gay friends. It makes them laugh because they know I don't feel that way. Kind of like how I flirt with my obviously flamboyantly gay friends and call myself "gangsta" (I'm a band nerd). They usually say, "That's straight" (in a "disgusted" tone) or "YOU'RE gay" back at me. It's one of the ways we joke around. One of them even said to me, "Oh, my GOD! You're STRAIGHT?! EEEWWW!!" I pretended to slap him, and we laughed.
Of course, I would never say anything like that to offend anyone. My friends know that I'd never hold their being themselves against them. They're my friends, and I love them just the way they are. Nobody should have the right to judge them based on one quality. I've even gotten in a fight because I was so upset with someone insulting my friends... Although, there does seem to be something hypocritical about that... "I can call my friends 'gay' and it's okay, but I'll beat you with my flute case if you say it."
